About Locus Fit

Performance, measured.

In paddling there is no absolute number. Every time is a product of the wind, the water, and who else was on the line. So we measure what is actually true: how an athlete stacks up against the field, against the plan, and against the athlete they were last season.

Three comparisons, one record.

Locus Fit is training and results analysis for sprint canoe and kayak. It works from data paddlers already collect: the watch on the boat and the result sheet on the board.

Against the field

Every race beside the people who were on the line.

Twenty-five years of Canadian sprint results, read from published result sheets: 212,000 results and 12,900 athletes. A time means something once you can see who it beat.

Against the plan

What was prescribed, next to what was paddled.

The watch records the session and the platform reads it against the coach's program: which pieces landed in the zone, which drifted, and where the week went off plan.

Against last season

The athlete you were a year ago.

The same piece on the same water, a season apart. Progress that a stopwatch cannot show on a windy day shows up across a year of sessions.

Who it is for

Athletes
The first reader. A number an athlete can check is a number an athlete can trust, and it does not depend on anyone having been watching that day.
Coaches
One person cannot watch a whole squad every session, and what they see is gone when the session ends. Locus Fit keeps the record so a coach's attention goes where it counts.
Clubs and associations
Squad-wide training reads and a results history for the people who plan the season, run the programme, and need more than one regatta's worth of information.

Founder

Jackson Chambers

Jackson has paddled sprint canoe for most of his life and has been going to regattas since he was a baby. He won his first national title at 16 and raced for Canada at the Olympic Hopes Regatta and the 2023 Junior World Championships. He studies computer engineering at Dalhousie University.

As a teenager he did not always take a person's word about his own paddling. He would have taken a number. Locus Fit is that number, built so the sport can use the data it already collects.
