LOCUS FIT

Race Recorder Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This policy covers the Locus Race Recorder Garmin Connect IQ watch app (“the app”), made by Locus Fit (“we”). The Locus Fit training watch app has its own privacy policy, and the coaching platform has another. They are separate apps with separate behaviour; this one is the most restricted of the three.

The short version

The app has no network access. It is built without the Connect IQ permissions that would let it reach the internet at all, so it cannot send your data anywhere, to us or to anyone else, even in principle. Everything it records stays on your watch and syncs to your Garmin account the same way a normal Garmin activity does. We never see any of it, and we hold no account, profile, or record of you.

What the app records

While recording, the app reads your watch’s motion sensors (accelerometer, and gyroscope where available), GPS position, and heart rate. From these it computes stroke rate, distance per stroke, and boat balance measures. All of this happens on the device.

The results, along with the raw motion data, are written into the activity (FIT) file on your watch, exactly like a native Garmin activity. That file syncs to your Garmin Connect account under Garmin’s own privacy policy. What you do with it after that — including whether you share it with a coach — is entirely your choice, made outside this app.

Watch settings the app reads

Before it will start recording, the app checks that your watch cannot make a sound or vibrate, because sport rules for canoe sprint prohibit devices that give an athlete feedback during a race. To do that it reads the following settings from your watch:

It records whether each of those checks passed into the activity file alongside your data, so you have a record of the watch’s state during the recording. It reads only whether these settings are on or off. It does not read your notifications, their contents, your phone, your contacts, or anything else about your device.

What we don’t do

The Locus Fit coaching platform does record first-party usage data — which screens are opened, which errors occur — on its own servers, and says so in its policy. This app is not connected to any of it. It ships without network permissions, so it has no way to send an analytics record even if we wanted one.

Data retention and deletion

We hold no data from this app, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Your recordings live on your watch and in your Garmin account; delete them there, or through Garmin, at any time. If you have a question about this, email support@locus.fit.

Relationship to Garmin

No data is submitted to Locus Fit through this app. Garmin has no responsibility or liability for data recorded with it. Locus Fit is an independent developer and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Garmin. Activity files recorded on your watch are handled by Garmin under Garmin’s own privacy policy.

Not a ruling on eligibility

The checks described above are a tool, not an approval. Equipment rules differ between federations, change between seasons, and are interpreted by the officials present on the day. Locus Fit is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any canoe federation. Clear any device on your boat with your national federation and the event’s chief official before racing with it.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a future version of the app ever gains network access, that would be a material change and we would say so here plainly rather than quietly widening the wording.
